Our Mission Statement:
Be Proud!By Margo McCutcheon, East Canada, Governor Now that my first year as your Governor in East Canada Section Ninety Nines is nearly completed, I can easily say that this Section does a grand job of fulfilling our mission statement. When you come to our annual spring meeting in Ottawa, in June, you will listen to the reports of the chapter chairs and committee heads. It will be obvious that your women friends, in the 99s, have accomplished an enormous amount of work across the country. It makes me feel very proud to be associated with distinguished women promoting fellowship within their own chapters as they work together. They set up a variety of programs and events with skill and precision and the aviation community is the beneficiary. They raise funds to provide scholarships, they donate rides for first flights, they eagerly teach the young about airplanes, they help students to understand the theory of flight and at the same time, spread the word of women in aviation at other non aviation community events. On every occasion these industrious women wear a Big Smile. They love to fly and want others to enjoy the privilege of flying. Not only do our fellow 99s create and sponsor flying events to involve the community in charitable causes, they also work in museums across the country, volunteering their special talents to preserve their unique history among all aviators. This is grass roots stuff we can be proud of. There are no tax deductions here, so we know you are volunteering for the “Fun of It” and the fellowship, which follows. Take a bow, ladies, pat yourself on the back. CALLING ALL 99s! Get ready to start your engines for another fun adventure! The First Canadian Chapter is planning our 5th Annual Gold Cup Air Rally and we hope you will join us. The dates are June 12th to 15th 2005. The plan is to depart from the Rockcliffe Airport (CYRO) (identifier) in Ottawa following the East Canada Section meeting. As this is a joint meeting with North Central Section (USA) we hope some of our American friends will join us. We plan to fly north east from Ottawa into Quebec and northern Ontario (weather permitting) and finish in Sault Ste Marie. (CYAM) The Sault is a vibrant little city with a great float plane museum, and is the home of Roberta Bondar, Canada’s first female astronaut. It offers many outdoor activities, and the Agawa Canyon to the north. After the rally you may want to go to beautiful Macinac Island (less than 30 minutes away). Macinac has a nice little airport, complete with horse drawn taxis. Of course there will be many challenges along the route as usual. The awards banquet will be Wednesday evening. Dust off your survival gear as some of the territory we will be flying over is quite remote. This year’s entry fee is $90.00. per person. We hope 99s from other chapter will join us as well, it is always a lot of fun. See the enclosed application forms, one for each participant and one for each airplane. Included in this letter is an application form for the meeting in Ottawa June 10 – 12, 2005 also some information for the hotel and airports.
