Classroom Lesson: 

  • Class to have previewed VHS video tape –"Look Up"
  • VHS tape "Look Up" to initiate the lesson
  • Review of vocabulary and theories
  • Inventory check of supplies, by school and presenters
  • Distribution of airfoil shapes sheets
  • Assembly following overhead sheet
  • Review of vocabulary using completed models
  • Check example of flying ability of models
  • Set separate surface structures in various modes   i.e. Left Aileron - Down; Left Elevator - Down;
  • Right Aileron - Up; Right Elevator - Up;
  • Controlled number of examples flown in different configurations to observe flight paths
  • Open question period if all models/experiments completed

Follow-up: 

  • Suggested model-building projects, experiments
  • Further videos, i.e. "Look Up"
  • Participate in local Science Fair, where 99s Chapters sponsor an aviation prize book, scroll and plane ride
