Aerospace education is a big project within schools and with youth groups such as Girl Guides, who can qualify for aviation badges, and Boy Scouts.

Purpose: To encourage interest in aviation.

Items covered:

  1. Name and describe four different types of aircraft now in use. Be sure to include those common to your area. Point out some things that make one type of aircraft different from another.
     

  2. On an aircraft or a picture or model of an aircraft, identify:

  • Fuselage

  • Rudder

  • Nacelle

  • Wings

  • Cockpit

  • Elevator

  • Undercarriage

  • Aileron

  3. Explain what separation of aircraft means.

  4. Tell:

  • what a wind sock is.

  • what runway numbers mean

  • why airplanes land into the wind.

  1. Visit your local airport. Explain the use of the Airport Control Tower or the Flight Service Station.
