History of the 99s and the Montreal Chapter:

The 99s organization started in the United States in 1929 in order to regroup women pilots and to promote their interests and skills.  The name "99" comes from the number of women pilots who showed up (out of 125) to the first meeting where Amelia Earheart was elected first President.  The Canadian 99s officially started in Canada in 1950.  Our Montreal Chapter exists since May 25th 1970.  Prior to that, the Montreal 99s were part of the Ottawa Chapter.  On October 29th, we are celebrating 60 years of the 99s in Canada, in Toronto.

The Montreal Chapter membership has varied between 10 and 25 women pilots, however, we can be many more since more women are flying, are instructors and CFIs!  An activity program for the next two years has been put in place and we are presently in a big recruitment campaign to gather the most women pilots possible so that our activities benefit the largest number of women pilots possible and answers their needs.  We have monthly activities of: flying, more formal meetings and less formal meetings as well as industrial visits, speakers and and whole host of other activities.
