17 women pilots
in eight planes competed in the 8th annual Gold Cup Air Rally of
East Canada Section. On June 15th, 2008, after a two
day Annual General Meeting
in downtown Montreal, the women departed St. Hubert, PQ,
southbound over Lake Champlain to Burlington, Vermont to
Glenn Falls, New York. After a short stay in the scenic Lake George
region the women departed northeast bound to Quebec City to join
in the historic city’s 400th anniversary
celebrations. For a 2nd time, Bar Harbor Maine , the original
destination, remained elusive for the VFR rally due to low ceilings
over the mountains.
Safely flying the legs proved a challenge
due to a quasi stationery low enroute, but the women were able to find
windows of opportunity to fly before low ceilings settled in and
thunderstorms pelleted the track.
Special
thanks to Asti Livingston for offering her twin
Cessna 310 as a cargo plane
when a Cessna 150 was left behind in Vermont , due to mechanical
problems. Thanks
also, to Eva Adams for arranging
our awards celebration in a "Room with a View" at the Chateau Laurier
and the Montreal Chapter for their hospitality.
In
previous years
the adventurous women pilots have flown to:
2000 Fredericton, NB 2001 Calgary, AB 2003 PEI
2004 Meadowlake, Sask 2005 Sault Ste Marie, ON 2006 Grand
Manan, N.B. 2007 Boulder, CO 2008 Quebec City, PQ
Great
teamwork Ladies! All are looking forward to next year's event which
will be organized by the 2008 winners.
See everyone next year
