Celebrating 36th anniversary!

2006 Events:  On December 3rd, a good turnout at the Christmas brunch - it was great to see everyone together enjoying a delicious brunch at the Ramada in London.

Our Annual General Meeting took place Saturday November 4th - Janet Chesterfield became our Chair, Sue Burrows our Vice-Chair.  Shirley and Marie will continue to be our Secretary and Treasurer.  It was great to see Patricia Crocker out and around.  Special thanks to the Diane Air Centre for the use of their well equipped meeting room.  After a tour of the F.S.S. we enjoyed lunch at the Katana Cafe, then met in the East room to attend to the AGM.

Unfortunately our September 30th  Fly-in Air Rally to Brantford CYFD airport had to be cancelled due to bad weather.  This will be rescheduled to another time.

In September Nancy Holden, Karin Williamson, Janet Chesterfield and Jocelyn Lecluse flew in the 2006 Gold Cup Air Rally.  Karin won the spot landing contest!

August 12th Saturday  Ninety-Nines Event in Windsor CYQG for the Windsor-Riverside 99's fundraiser.  We danced the night away in an old fashioned 'Sock Hop" and enjoyed the BBQ ribs and chicken at Journey Air.  It was complete with vintage car show, Vintage Air craft, D.J., dinner and lots of fun.

July 22nd Pelee Island Fly-in:  Congratulations to Kay Johnson, All Ohio Chapter, winner of the 99s sportswear jacket in the spot landing contest.  We networked with about 20 participants in our joint fly-in with All Ohio Chapter and the Windsor Flying Club.

July 7-9th Ninety-Nines International Conference, Washington DC: Susan Begg and Janet Chesterfield flew Sue’s Mooney to D.C. to join approx. 300 other Ninety-Nines from all over the world (Israel, New Zealand, Japan, Russia) in Washington to represent our Canadian interests and vote on important issues at our Annual International Conference July 7-9th.   The aye-diz (ADIZ) did not prove a problem at all.  All you have to do is read up on the procedures, file two flight plans, one for normal flight and another for the ADIZ.   Before entering the high security area you a) advise you are on a flightplan for the ADIZ,  b) receive your discreet transponder code c) enter at a prescribed checkpoint,  d) stay below the B airspace and leave the transponder on until you are shut-down.   Great sightseeing with the White House, monuments, etc. all within an easy walk from the hotel.  The best part for local 99, Janet Chesterfield, was when Susan let her fly the Mooney back to Canada dodging clouds at 5,500 cruising at 147 kts.

June 17th Saturday:  Fly-in to Tobermory : Three Ninety-Nines planes flew into Tobermory for the Chichiman Weekend festival and antique car show.  On the ground, we were first greeted by WFC’s Nancy and Ross Holden.  A  shuttle bus was provided by the airport into town for the car show and lunch.   Approx. 22 G.A. planes flew in that day to show support for this airport that the town is threatening to close.   See picture (above photo album) is of an experimental aircraft being built in the Tobermory hangar.  The aircraft is very lightweight and will be propelled with pedals similar to a bicycle.

June 2nd East Canada Section Meeting/Joint with U.S. Atlantic Section, Saint John , New Brunswick: Great weather allowed a timely fly-in into Saint John , N.B. Friday afternoon on June 2nd.   MLC Jocelyn Lecluse, Janet Chesterfield and Peggy Smith joined with members from the U.S. and Canada for a total of approx. 30 Ninety-nines to discuss business, celebrate friendships and explore the interesting city.  Margo McCutcheon passed the gavel to Anne Starret who is now the ECS Governor.  Jocelyn Lecluse-Secretary and Jill Dermott-Treasurer were acclaimed for a further term.  On Saturday night the group attended a lobster dinner at a scenic private lake lodge.  The harbour’s view from the Hilton provided an interesting look at the weather which became foggy after heavy rains.  VFR pilots, including our MLC were delayed in departing until Tuesday.   This allowed more time for the museum, sights, market and Billy’s Seafood Restaurant.

May 13th  New Windsor Riverside Chapter of the Ninety-Nines Considering the weather, we were happy to see 13 women aviators turn out for our joint meeting in Windsor on Saturday wherein ECS Governor, Margo McCutcheon presented the new Windsor Riverside Chapter with their charter.  A lovely luncheon was served, complete with a special 99s cake (thanks to Dale Harvie and crew for helping).  The history of the Ninety-nines was presented by powerpoint in Journey Air's conference room, a 50/50 draw was made and some prizes were raffled off.  Photo (see album above): Front: Jackie Stephens, Jocelyn Blair, Savina Kashyap, Karen Ferguson, Janet Chesterfield, Noriko Date  Back:  Bonnie Rempel, Sue Burrows, Jocelyn Lecluse, Karen Harvie, Jessica Morris, Karin Williamson, Margo McCutcheon

April 15/06 CLM2 MLC Leamington  Thanks to the 9 women aviators who attended the meeting. Also, to the 49 1/2s who work behind the scenes.  Mollie Richard is the defending spot landing champion.  $70 was net after the 50/50 draw and donations for lunch (air education).   Good news….Karin found her 99s pin in the hangar back at XU.  It was great to network with Windsor Riverside Chapter on a lovely day.

April 2nd:   Sun ‘n Fun, Lakeland FLA (Janet & Jocelyn) - On Sunday, April 2nd, after a short delay in Buffalo, we diverted 100 miles east of our original course, due to weather, and flew direct to Dansville , S.C. for a fuel stop.  On to Sumter for an overnight.  At dawn (7 a.m.) it was necessary to depart to avoid impending IFR conditions that came in by 8 a.m.  Another fuel break in Brunswick , Georgia , a holdover due to low ceilings in St. Marys , GA and then the exciting landing in Lakeland .  Thanks to all who gave us useful preflight advice.   We used all of it, especially the MOA, Restricted and Prohibited area warnings and the 36 page Notam we had to review before our arrival.   As Ninety-Nines, we were treated royally in the campground where we enjoyed camping under the wing.   The first day on the grounds we ran into WFC’s Perry Burford and Carl Klinck.

JAN 27/06 12:00 – 13:50 MLC Meeting:  CYXU  Great weather permitted a fly-in in January.  After a quick, tasty lunch at the Katana, Jocelyn Lecluse (past-chair), Janet Chesterfield (vice-chair) and Karin Williamson (scrapbook) talked over the results of the surveys, looked at jacket/vest samples (99s sportswear), discussed dates from FCC Flightlines and joint initiatives with Windsor Riverside Chapter/All Ohio.  The minute book for MLC will be updated by Jos and turned over to the new executive.   Adjourned at 13:50 when Karin W. made a quick getaway.  Jos and Janet then visited Transport Canada FSS  to talk over weather.   It was helpful to see the graphic forecasts on FSS monitors.   We will try to get a tour at FSS on a fly-in weekend this summer.

January 23/2006 Meeting with WRC, Windsor:   MLC Vice Chair, Janet C. met with Windsor Riverside Chapter Executive to discuss ideas for 2006.  We are planning a joint meeting in May 2006 wherein Margo McCutcheon, District Governor will present the new chapter with their charter and a luncheon will follow.  To be held at the beautiful Journey Air where we look forward to many fly-ins (at Windsor Airport, next to Windsor EAA).   Best wishes to this new group!

In May, we joined the All-Ohio 99s for lunch at the Ohio State University airport.

On April 2nd, we gathered at Pat Crocker's social room to talk about Air Education and have a potluck.

On March 5th, Mollie Richards and her husband Jeff treated us to a wonderful sailing presentation at the St Thomas airport. In 1999, they traveled 9,000 miles around South America in 9 months and 4 days. What a sense of accomplishment that must have been for them. Their sailboat, Don Flight was very sail worthy as on one occasion it battled fifty foot waves. The photography of the Panama, Easter Island, Chile and Argentina was breathtaking. We want to extend a big thank you to Mollie and Jeff for such a stimulating morning. Afterwards we had a delicious lunch at New Saram diner.<
