Fly-in, St. Thomas airport / New Sarum restaurant
rendezvous: As with attendance, it was quality, not
quantity, at the fly in. Only Janet flew in the rain.
Jocelyn, Anne-Marie LaPonte and Jessica made it a foursome
and we stuffed ourselves on so much "fish special".
We
got cloudy skies with blue clouds, so that's something.
On July 6, members of the
Maple Leaf 99's and the First Canadian 99's teamed up with
some aviation enthusiasts to tour Bombardier Aerospace. The
tour was fifteen strong when we finally arrived at Downsview.
Some of the 99's also visited the Canadian Air and Space
Museum. Bombardier tour guides Erika and Karen, engineer and
test pilot respectively, were most informative in showing us
the construction of the Q400. This is the first time that the
99's have organized a tour to Bombardier. Many of us were in
awe of the plant. A repeat visit will be planned if more 99's
want to tour this amazing facility.
See the photo in our album below - attendees included Ray
Chesterfield, Janet Chesterfield (MLC), Philip Mhon, Roy Wiens,
Jessica Buscher (MLC), Harry Zanin, Ron White, Jocelyn Lecluse
(MLC), Jennifer Lecluse and Robyn Nisbet
High School Aviation Club
teams up with the MLC 99s to tour Diamond Aircraft and the
Canadian Jet Museum in April. This tour combined members of the
MLC 99's as well as St. Thomas Aquinas CSS Aviation Club.
Standing in front of the Jet Museum's T-33 are Bob Spence (451/2),
Jared Vaughan, STA Aviation Club, Marina Droogers, 99, Frank
Udovic, parent volunteer, Jim Blokker, STA Robotics Club, Shaun
Udovic, STA Aviation Club, Marie Spence, 99 and Jessica Buscher
Mahon, MLC Chair.
Our tour of Diamond A/C was
informative but eerily quiet compared to two years ago. The
Canadian Jet Museum is a very new venture in London, housed in the
former Empire Aviation Hanger. It is also the site of the new,
and one and only Test Pilot Training Centre. We were a small but
enthusiastic group.
Fall 2010 - some flying,
some social/business (Nov. AGM, Christmas gathering).
June 2010 - Our Gold Cup Air
Rally to St. Anthony, Newfoundland, has officially concluded.
Congratulations to winners Marilyn Dickson and Jean Franklin-Hancher.
