Recent Events

Dec. 2/07 14 attendees braved the driving in IMC due to fog and enjoyed a bountiful buffet at the Ramada Inn in London.  Thanks Karin for organizing this annual event.  Welcome Lucy!

On Saturday Nov. 17th two planes flew in for our Annual General Meeting - Jocelyn's Cirrus and a Mooney from Ottawa.  Members took a tour of the Diamond aircraft facility, then had lunch together at the Diamond Café.  At the AGM, Susan Begg officially presented Janet and Jocelyn with the engraved Gold Cup Air Rally, won this past September in the Leamington-Colorado Air Rally.

Sept. 20th Members flew to Kitchener (CYKF) to meet our 2 newest members Eva and Anna. Jocelyn and Janet brought along their GCAR trophy (see photo above).  Anna and Eva met with Karin, Sue, Jos, Janet and daughter Rachel for lunch. Welcome, ladies!

Sept 9th to 16th. Jocelyn Lecluse and Janet Chesterfield flew Jocelyn's airplane in the Gold Cup Air Rally (Leamington, Ontario to Boulder Colorado), winning first place!  "Plane # 5 gave it their all, and all the extra training paid off!".

Janet & Jos's "report" on the Gold Cup Air Rally:  Boulder, CO Sept. 9th follows :    On Sunday Sept. 9th, after a sleepover in Leamington at the Homewoods Farm and Stonegate, 14 women set out on the “A Team” of this year’s GCAR.  The “B Team” was held up with weather in Toronto and had to take another route.  The departure was later than expected, due to rainy weather.  We set out approx. 15:30 from Leamington , direct to Detroit City Centre (Coleman Young) to clear customs.   Then on to Muncie , Indiana for an overnight.   Monday morning was foggy so we worked on challenges at the airport, then on to Quincie , Illinois where our fuel stop ended up in another overnighter on Tuesday evening, because of rain and high wind.  Wednesday morning, we were back on track and had a lovely day in Atchison , Kansas where the Ninety-Nines provided a tasty lunch, tour of Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum and the Forest of Friendship .   A quick goodbye and we were on to Goodland , Kansas where part of the “B team caught up.   Still, two more planes to join the flock, but they did not meet up with us until Boulder , CO .   Goodland, the heartland of Kansas was another interesting sleepover and gave us a great opportunity to head out with blue skies early to get into Rocky Mountain Airport, Boulder CO before lunchtime, back on schedule.  The Colorado Ninety-Nines were on hand to welcome us and provided a shuttle to the lovely Marriott Townsuites and Omni for the International Conference.   The last challenges were handed in for scoring and the rest of the “B Team” finally caught up to make the group complete.  Our own Gold Cup Air Rally banquet ended at the Omni Hotel late at night where the awards were presented.  Much to our surprise, Jocelyn and I were announced the high score and winners of the Gold Cup.   Again, we were very pleased and happy to represent our chapter.   Truly we worked very hard on the challenges, one of which was to write and perform a ditty.

Sept. 1st:  With 62 planes attending the last, of three, pancake breakfasts on Pelee Island , there is no doubt this venue is a popular destination for aviators.    Stay tuned for next year’s exciting calendar of events on the alluring island.

Several fly-ins to Pelee Island took place over the summer.

June 22-24 Oshawa Air Expo.  We helped man the 99s booth.

June 9th - 24 hardy aviators endured the bus ride to Dayton Ohio where we learned much at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the largest Aviation Museum in the world.

June 2nd East Canada Section meeting at Collingwood.  Blue Mountain was a relaxing venue - great scenery.  The new 2006 book was released at this meeting - great cover graphics were done by our own Jane Atkinson-White.

Want to look back at 2006, 2005 and 2004 activities?
